What is a Watt (w)?

A watt (w) is a measurement of electric power. A single watt is equal to one joule/second.

The Relationship Between Watts and Heat

Compared to any other type of lamp, LED grow lights require far less watts to produce the same amount of light. This is one of the many reasons why LED grow lights also radiate significantly less heat than HID grow lights and fluorescent tubes. The more watts a lamp requires, the hotter that lamp becomes during operation. Because LED grow lights operate with low wattages, they emit very little heat, reducing the need for supplemental cooling in a grow room.
