What is Power Factor?

The power factor measures how efficiently a ballast uses its power. It is expressed as the ratio of real power (watts) to apparent power (volts multiplied by amps).

The Difference Between Power Factor and Ballast Factor

Though the two terms are often confused, power factor and ballast factor express two very different things. The power factor relates to the use of electric utilities. Ballast factor is related to light output and expresses how many lumens the ballast/bulb system can produce.
