What is a Halogen Lamp?

Technically a tungsten-halogen lamp, this is a high-pressure incandescent lamp. The bulb contains halogen gases such as bromine or iodine, which allow the filament to function at a higher temperature. This increases the efficacy of the lamp.

Can You Use a Halogen Lamp as a Grow Light?

For household use and similar applications, halogen lamps are a great choice. They produce a high quality of light, and they’re more efficient and have a longer lifespan than standard incandescent bulbs. However, these lamps do not make great grow lights. They produce far too much heat, which means they can be damaging to plants and require an impractical amount of supplemental cooling. They also feature a very limited light spectrum.
