What is an Electronic Ballast?

Electronic ballasts are devices that provide the high voltages needed to power HID and fluorescent lights (see: Ballast) using electronic components as opposed to magnetic components.

How Does an Electronic Ballast Work?

An electronic ballast features a series of separated induction coils, allowing the ballast to work at a frequency of 20,000hz (vs. 60hz for a magnetic ballast). This high frequency prevents the flickering and buzzing associated with fluorescent lights using magnetic ballasts.
