What is COB?

COB—or Chip-on-Board—is a new approach to LED packaging. With this technology, a manufacturer mounts several LED chips directly onto a substrate. This has the effect of forming a single module, allowing the many tiny LEDs to function and appear as a single light source—essentially a lighting panel.

What are the Advantages of COB LEDs?

Chip-on-Board technology has simplified and improved the quality of LED lighting in several ways. Just a handful of benefits include:
  • Higher lumen output per square inch
  • Fewer components required, as a single circuit energizes multiple chips
  • Significant decrease in light loss
